What’s the difference between a viola and an onion?
Nobody cries when you chop up a viola.
We could easily start like this, since violists are the target of the most jokes in any orchestra. But the viola is far from just a ruined violin. It is the very instrument that gives the orchestra its dark, velvety depth and the backbone of its sound. At this concert, our violists are putting self-deprecation aside to prove that they are actually the coolest people in the orchestra. We will show you that the viola can sing virtuously, thunder with power, and school everyone else—so it’s time to forget the jokes!
